Final Piece
I decided to take my final one step further by printing it out and added an inside page of the same repeat pattern on the front.
Here is the computer version of my design :)
Working towards final piece
Since my last screenshot, I added the smoke for the caterpillar, by creating grey circles and lowering the opacity, I also added a background for the front cover which is the same as the pocket watch.
Examples of colouring drawings and selecting book publisher symbols.
I then used more of my drawings and coloured them on photoshop adding them to my book cover.
Once I'd added the font, I again readjusted things, adding the polystyrene print bunting, this way that way sign, lino of the mad hatters hat.
I played around with the different sizes and how things 'fitted together. I then went on 'dafont' in order to find a font which would fit my book cover design. Finally I came to the decision of a font called 'sparkling' which I really liked as it was readable but had a touch of magic and journey.
From my original cover, I copy and pasted the different layers to create a design using all the things I had already done.
Half way through designing, I wasn't happy at all with what I had created, I then used of roses that i had photographed, removed the background and overlaid them creating a overlapped pattern, the reason I did this was to represent 'the roses' "paint the roses red' in the film/book, as the vibrant red colour would not fit my colour scheme, in photoshop I later converted it into a blue sky type colour, using a filter.

Creating and Designing (Front Cover - Exam)
I also experimented with lino, howeve I decided not to use what i had done as it i did not want to complicate the media of my book cover, by making it look 'over the top' and crowded.
After scanning my drawing of the caterpillar and the mushroom I then coloured it in and added it to my book cover.
Using water colour I painted the grass, multiplied it and edited it adding it to my book cover design.
I used the same technique on the bunting, scanned it coloured and added it to my keyhole design.
When Experimenting early, I really liked the effect polystyrene gave when printed, I cut out the keyhole and the inside of the keyhole, along with the this way that way sign, using a scalpel. Shown above are the first stages of this process.
Creating the character Alice (Exam)
I Continued colouring Alice on photoshop, as personally I find the construction of Photoshop a lot easier by the different tools/layers in comparison to illustrator.
Firstly I started sketching out possible characters for my 'Alice'. Once I'd done this, I scanned the image into illustrator and photoshop enabling me to add colour.

Final Draft
I folded a piece of paper, into the design of a book cover sleeve, and drafted my idea for my final piece (cover)
1. Left flap - Author picture into mushroom, grass + teacup
2. Back cover - Dangling pocket watches, blurb, playing card in the grass (flowers etc)
3. Spine - Name of book - Author and Publisher logo
4. Front cover - Key hole into 'Wonderland' Including bunting. Catepillar (Absolem), Shisha, path, this way that way sign etc..
5. Right flap - Writing about book - Mad hatters hat in the grass

Digital Type Choice
Here I analysed different typefaces, looking at all different aspects of the letters i.e ascenders, serfs, terminals etc. This gave me a better understanding of the different types and the way a typeface creates a mood/image.

Lino Print + Photoshop (Experimenting with materials)
Once I'd combined the two layers I then changed the Hue and light levels. (shown above)
Once I'd printed the first lino, I then worked into it again and re printed it, adding it to photoshop and colouring it.

Colour Schemes
Colour Schemes
M O N O C R O M A T I C
Within this monochromatic I have used different shades of purple, I chose this colour as Alice's dress is blue, and I feel the colour blue allowed me to use a range of different shades to contrast monochromatic.
I feel this looks slightly odd as having blue skin isn't exactly socially acceptable.. or realistic.
However, If I was designing an all blue/monocromatic book cover, It would fit in well as it gives a sense of trippyness the idea of wonderland being in a different world/dream.
C O M P L E M E N T A R Y
By looking at the colour wheel, I chose two colours which complemented each other - YELLOW and PURPLE.
When doing this I used a range of warm and cool purples and yellows to give the image more depth. Before doing this colour scheme I automatically thought it was going to look awful, However I quite like the complimentary effect.
The downside of this is that the two colours don't really have relevance if i used them for my final piece, and I feel they limit my design.
A N A L O G O U S
For my analogous colour scheme I decided to use the colours blue, yellows and greens,
I chose this colour scheme as I wanted to get a good range of different colours into my colour scheme to help me figure out what colours worked well together.
T R I A D I C
The colours I used for my triadic colour scheme were green, pink and blue. I didn't really like these colours together and fond it very difficult to try and make it look appealing.

Polystyrene Print + photoshop (Experiment/Drafting)
I Decided not to further this book cover technique as I was not happy with the effect or quality for something suppose to be on 'the shelves of today' despite this I liked using polystyrene as it was something I hadn't worked with before.
I then decided to just see what it would look like if I was planning on making this style into a book cover sleeve, I added more grass my lino print and the pocket watch also a polystyrene print.
This is a screenshot of both layers merged together.Once I had done this, I then came to a holt, as I was unsure how to get the detail onto my print, as making facial features proved extremely difficult. Therefore I crew out the outline of my polystyrene print and overlaid it with what I had already done.
Once I'd scanned them in, I then put them together in photoshop and coloured them (shown above)
Firstly I got some polystyrene, drew out the individual parts of my front cover and then cut them out and printed them.

Typography - 'dreaming'
From taking inspiration from my mood board, I designed a simple yet 'wonderland' like typeface, using black ink.
